Memories I --- Bravery

Mali, Jam, Pal and Nap were quite close buddies during their college. All of them were from different schools and they all spend most of their time together. Mali, Jam and Pal were from the same dept while Nap is from a different one. They all stayed with their family since they studied at their hometown.

One fine day, Nap told the gang during lunch time that his parents were going out of town that day and that he will be alone in the night. That news brightened the remaining three since that is a good opportunity for them to get together and do something 'useful'.
They decided to meet at the parking lot in the evening to decide on the plan. Most of their ‘useful’ plans are laid out either at parking lot or in the tea shop outside the college.

In the evening, all the four met and started discussing about a plan for the night. All the four of them have boozed once or twice before. So boozing is on top of their agenda. Now comes the implementation phase. They checked up with the money they had. Since they all stayed with their parents, they don’t have much money. Also all the four were not that rich people to get pocket money. Somehow they managed 100 rupees among them. Nap was very upset and asked the others, 'Machi side dish illayada'. Mali suddenly remembered that he had a 100 rupees note that was given to him by his grandpa long time before. So Mali promised them that he will get another beer and some side dish for the party. So they decided to meet at Nap's home sharp at 8.00 PM. Mali reached home and told his mom that he will be staying at Nap's home and he wanted to have some chappathi's for himself and Nap for dinner. His mom readily agreed. Mali was thinking that the good thing about mom's is that they always believe in their sons no matter what they say unlike fathers who never believe their sons. The gang assembles at 8.00PM with all the things needed. Pal asked Nap, "What is the reason for your parents going out of town da?” Nap replied, "Machi oorla yaaro ticket vangittangalam". "Ada paavi, at this sad time unakku sarakka, intha pavam unna summa vidathu", this is Pal. Jam got pissed off and said, “Then ok Pal you don’t drink today". Pal then said, "Chumma sonnen machi, arasialla ithu ellam satharanamappa".

After the initial talks the gang assembled in Nap's room. That room is very good since it had a balcony. The good thing with Pal is he always opens all the beer bottles with his mouth. They never needed an opener. So everything was set and when they were about to start, the calling bell was ringing. Nap was scolding, 'Yevanda ithu intha nerathula'. Nap and Jam went down to see who it is. Jam came up running, "Dey it’s Nap's dad da". The entire gang was taken back for a moment. Then they all realized that it was only the bottles that need to hide so that they can escape. The good thing here is Nap's dad never comes to his room at all. They had such a good 'understanding'. Finally they decided to keep all the bottles at Nap's bathroom. Mali told the gang, 'Machi, kanavula kooda avunga appa ivanoda bathroomuka vara mattarda'.

Nap's dad has a small chat with the gang and went to sleep. The gang decided no matter what happens they have to drink the beer. So they all went to the other bed room where Nap's dad was sleeping. They watched him for a while and he was in a sound sleep.

Then the naughty four came back to Nap's room and came up with a neat plan. The gang of four people is divided into three groups. One will stand in front of the bedroom where Nap's dad was sleeping. The other one will stand in front of Nap's room. In the mean time the remaining two will drink inside nap's room. If nap's dad gets up the first person will signal to the second one who in turn will alert the two drinking. The two will have to keep the bottles again in the bath room. The good thing about the plan is that all of them have to play all the roles. The plan worked to perfection. The 3 bottles were emptied in 30 minutes. Nap's dad never got up that night. Luckily for the gang nap's dad left early in the morning. All the four was expecting president's bravery award for that year but none of them got one.

Gayathri

It was a Thursday Morning. I was busy updating a lot of documents as i have telecon in the evening. 'I should have done these all by yesterday', i told to myself. Suddenly i got a call from PK asking me to come to one of the training rooms. We usually have team meetings in big training rooms if they are free. PK told me that boss is having an urgent meeting. I thought boss is going to scold me as i forgot to fill some XL sheets the previous day. I took a notebook and pen and literally ran towards the training room. I went inside and saw only pk, laughing and sipping a cup of tea. Pk told me, 'I am bored sitting in my cube. So just called you. Come lets have a cup of tea'. I thought of kicking him but suddenly realised that pk is stronger than myself. Then i picked a cup of tea and started the mokkai. Pk is one guy in sensoft office where he didnt have any work at all. Many times i wondered why sensoft is still keeping him as an employee. He could have laid off him.

Around 12 PK came to my cube and told me that he is goin to a restaurant in Ulsoor. I was shocked becoz that place is 23 kilometers from our office. Now you can find out how jobless he is. He said he got a company [Obviously a guy] and they are going in bike. I told him,'ithukku ellm onnum korachal illa, oru figure pick up panna vakku illa'. As if i have picked two or three.
Finally pk came to office around tea time and he joined us for tea. Everyone in the gang made of fun of him and one among them told that the best way to kill time is to pick up a girl. Since the office offers free phone and browsing, it will be fun. I think this has struck pk and he started asking questions like,'Why no girl is talking to me'. I told him, 'Leave the talking part, i have never seen a girl looking at you'. So the group sat together and found some reasons for the terrible situation.

Finally we came up with the list. There are three reasons why he could not pick up a girlfirst and foremost is he is in our gang.Pk has to go out of this mokka gang. Second is because of his PJs. (Sometimes i feel suicide is better) third he looks all girls as if he has never seen any girl in his life. So we came up with some action plan.

The following are some of the action plans.
1. Come with me for some days in cab
2. Frequently visit other buildings in sensoft.
3. Move out of our mokka gang

The first one failed because he came with me in the cab. The second one failed because pk concentrated more on food than looking for girls. The third one also failed because nobody else other than our mokka gang was talking to him.

We forgot all these and we all became busy with the year end appraisals. One day he came to my cube and he looked very happy. I thought he found a new non-veg restaurant because as far as i know food is the only thing that makes him happy. But he told a different story. He has a interviewed a girl named 'Gayathri' the day before and he selected her. Pk said,'Ava thevathai maari irunthaanga'. I thought to myself,'Ada ithana varusama interview panni oru figure kooda namakku mattaleye'. I told him,'Thats the way to go my boy'. She was supposed to join on Monday. That weekend pk came to my home and we spent a lot of time planning for that monday. First thing is we went to garuda mall and get a couple of good shirts and jeans for PK. We bought a Shoe too. PK was well prepared for monday.

Finally the D-day has come. Both of us are very eagerly waiting for gayathri. We know that trainees would come by 2PM after induction. I was praying,'Ava oru mokka figureaa irukanum'. I could not see her as my manager called for a meeting and i went for that. After the meeting i went directly to PK's cube and asked him about gayathri. PK was looking very sad. Though i was happy, i didnt show it to him. I asked him,'Did gayathri have a boy friend or wat?'. PK replied,'Appadi iruntha kooda parava illanga. Manager sathi pannitanga'.I asked him,'What happened'.'The girl i interviewed that day was rejected by my manager. But that !@#$% never told me about that',pk replied. i told him,'Vidura vidura soona paana'.Pk then said,'Sema mood outaa irukkunga, shall we go out and have chicken biriyani'.

thalaya thingarathu (தலைய திங்கறது)

This is the tamil equivalent of 'eating my head' or 'eating my brain' in english.Heard this first time from my sister. Probably an year back, when we were talking she just casually told me 'thalaya thingarathu'. It took a while for me to understand the meaning for that word. For me this essentially means 'kadi ethurathu'.

The following is a small list of thalaya thingura activities
1. While going home in the evening cab, calling a friend who is working in office
and talk all type of nonsense
2. If there is no work at office, taking photo of the team members and sending it
to all the friends
3. Getting a call from your friend in US when you were in a movie and that guy
keeps on talking
4. When you are concentrating on your work(Of course rarely), one of your colleague asking you to come for tea
5. Sarakku semaya ethikittu overaa pesurathu, sean podurathu, thevai illama
pakkathu table karana vambukku ilukarathu, inimey naan sarakkey adikka mattennu
solrathu
6. Writing one Mokka story in a blog and asking all of your friends to read that
7. And finally appa advice panrathu (ithu mattum thangavey mudiyathu)
